The Rayagada mob violence case was accorded Red Flag status by the police on Sunday, signalling a high-priority probe into one of the state's most sensitive recent incidents.

Addressing a press conference, the SP said that 20 persons have been arrested so far in connection with the incident. Special teams have been constituted to apprehend the remaining accused involved in the violence.

Three Cases Registered, Probe Underway

Police have registered three separate cases and launched an extensive investigation into the incident. The SP stated that the investigation is being carried out with assistance from the Crime Branch, which is working closely with the district police.

Describing the incident as highly sensitive and reprehensible, the SP assured that all those responsible would be brought to justice.

“That is a very condemnable incident. But, the police responded very quickly and swiftly to that incident, and have already forwarded 20 people to the court. We have requested the higher authorities to red-flag the case, and the higher authorities, as well as the Crime Branch, are providing us with suitable guidance on how to take the investigation forward in this case. Filming a video without consent and circulating it is a violation of the IT Act. We are also tracking who made this kind of video and is circulating it, and the strictest action will be taken against them as well,” the SP said.
