A large quantity of ganja was seized from a car on the Sambalpur-Jharsuguda Biju Expressway near Kherual area in Odisha. The seizure was made during a routine police patrolling operation on the expressway on Saturday.
According to reports, police officials noticed a suspicious car moving on the Sambalpur-Jharsuguda route and attempted to stop the vehicle for checking. However, after seeing the police team, the driver allegedly tried to escape and accelerated the car at high speed.
Caught while Fleeing
While trying to flee, the driver lost control of the vehicle and the car crashed into a roadside divider. Taking immediate action, the police reached the spot and inspected the damaged vehicle. During the search, they recovered a large number of ganja packets and sacks hidden inside the car.
The investigation revealed that two persons were involved in transporting the contraband. After the accident, one of the accused managed to flee from the spot, while another person was apprehended by the police.

The smugglers were reportedly travelling from Boudh district to Jharsuguda and were en route to Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh with the illegal consignment. Police have launched a search operation to trace the absconding accused and are investigating the possible links of the smuggling network.
The seized ganja has been taken into custody and further legal action is underway.
