The Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44), the only all-weather road link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, remained open for two-way traffic on Monday, bringing relief to commuters and transporters travelling between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region.

Traffic authorities said that, subject to favourable weather and road conditions, the highway is likely to remain open for two-way traffic on Tuesday as well. However, vehicular movement continued to be slow at several locations along the Ramban–Banihal stretch due to single-lane sections, ongoing road repairs, and highway widening and construction works.

Officials stated that traffic movement on Tuesday would depend on weather conditions and clearance from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is carrying out extensive improvement works on the highway.

Authorities have advised commuters, particularly operators of passenger vehicles and light motor vehicles, to undertake their journeys during daylight hours and avoid travelling at night. The advisory has been issued in view of the risk of shooting stones, landslides, and construction-related hazards at vulnerable stretches between Ramban and Banihal.

According to traffic officials, passenger vehicles, private cars, and goods carriers will continue to be permitted from both the Jammu and Srinagar sides on Tuesday, provided weather and road conditions remain favourable.

Meanwhile, the traffic police have urged motorists to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking or driving on the wrong side of the road. Officials cautioned that traffic violations often lead to congestion and disrupt the smooth flow of vehicles on the busy highway.

Commuters have also been advised to check the latest traffic updates and road status before commencing their journey to avoid inconvenience.

Meanwhile, the Kishtwar–Sinthan Top–Anantnag National Highway (NH-244) remained open for two-way traffic. Authorities said vehicular movement on the route is being regulated through fixed cut-off timings prescribed by the administration to ensure safe passage of vehicles.
