Will Mumbai Indians part ways with Hardik Pandya?
Mumbai Indians (MI) could be headed for a significant squad revamp ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season, with reports suggesting that the franchise is considering parting ways with captain Hardik Pandya after a disappointing 2026 campaign.
According to media reports, MI's management is set to hold a crucial review meeting next week to assess the performances of players and coaching staff following the team's ninth-place finish. The meeting could result in major changes, including decisions on several senior members of the squad.
One of the biggest talking points is the possibility of a trade involving Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Reports claim that Jaiswal has emerged as Mumbai's preferred target, with the franchise viewing him as a long-term successor to veteran batter Rohit Sharma at the top of the order.
The reports further suggest that discussions between Hardik Pandya's representatives and Rajasthan Royals have already progressed significantly. In another surprising development, Mumbai Indians are also reportedly considering releasing senior batter Suryakumar Yadav.
As far as captaincy is concerned, MI are believed to be looking toward the future, with Tilak Varma emerging as the leading candidate to take over the leadership role. The left-hander's recent appointment as India's T20I vice-captain has further strengthened his credentials.

Meanwhile, Hardik recently visited the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to obtain clearance for a back spasm injury that he suffered during IPL 2026. Reports indicate that the injury may have worsened after he bowled his full quota of overs during fitness assessments at the CoE.
The 32-year-old all-rounder had missed several matches for Mumbai Indians due to fitness issues before returning for the team's final few games of the season. His latest setback comes at a crucial time, especially with the Indian team management keen on having him play more ODI cricket in preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
Pandya remains a key figure in India's plans despite his injury concerns. His absence during the 2023 ODI World Cup, following an ankle injury sustained against Bangladesh, had significantly impacted the team's balance, underlining his importance to India's white-ball setup.
