Vijay's Jana Nayagan clears major CBFC hurdle, likely to hit theatres in...: Reports

After spending nearly six months in certification limbo, Thalapathy Vijay’s swansong film Jana Nayagan appears to be inching towards its long-awaited theatrical debut. The political action drama, which has remained stuck in the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) process since January, has now crossed another major hurdle, raising hopes that audiences could finally watch the film on the big screen later this month.  According to the latest reports, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has examined the film, and the censor certificate is likely to be issued within the next two or three days. The makers are reportedly planning a July release, although an official date is yet to be announced. However, the certification process took an unexpected turn when one member of the committee reportedly wrote to CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi, objecting to some scenes. The matter was subsequently referred to the Revising Committee for a fresh review, delaying the release. Back in May, sources confirmed to NDTV that the Revising Committee had cleared the film, paving the way for the final certification. The latest reports suggest only the formal issuance of the certificate remains. Legal Battle and Delays Took a Toll The prolonged certification delay led to financial losses for the producers and distributors. The process came to a halt following a private complaint, prompting the makers to move court. While a single-judge bench of the Madras High Court initially directed the CBFC to issue the certificate, the order was later overturned by a division bench, forcing the producers to continue awaiting clearance. Meanwhile, Venkat K. Narayana, founder of KVN Productions, has been appointed as the Special Representative of the Tamil Nadu government in New Delhi. Narayana had also accompanied Vijay during one of his visits to Raj Bhavan when the actor-turned-politician staked his claim to form the government. Chennai Police arrested more than a dozen people in connection with the case, while the alleged "mastermind" behind the leak was arrested on June 10, according to the Cyber Crime Wing. With the certification process now in its final stages, Jana Nayagan appears set to end its long wait and finally arrive in cinemas this July, subject to the official announcement.
