Odisha hotel owner electrocuted while chasing monkeys off the rooftop in Kandhamal

A young hotel owner lost his life after accidentally coming in contact with a live 11kV power line while trying to chase monkeys away from the roof of his hotel in Odisha's Kandhamal district. The deceased has been identified as Manoj Kumar Panda, a resident of Baliguda. According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday when Panda noticed monkeys creating a nuisance on the rooftop of his hotel. He climbed onto the roof in an attempt to drive them away. During the process, he accidentally came into contact with an overhead 11 kV electric wire passing above the building. The high voltage shock left him critically injured. Hotel employees and family members immediately rushed him to Baliguda Hospital for treatment. However, despite their efforts, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Many gathered at the hospital to pay their last respects before a large funeral procession carried his mortal remains through the town.  His final rites were later performed in the presence of grieving family members and local residents. The tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by overhead high voltage power lines passing close to residential and commercial buildings. Authorities are expected to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details are awaited.
