Minamarg checkpost strengthened to bust narcotics supplies

R. C. Nishad · 3 जुलाई 2026
In a major push to curb supply or narcotics substances ahead of Amarnath Yatra and peak tourist season, Ladakh Police has deployed sniffer dogs from its K-9 unit at Police Post Minamarg on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway. Minamarg, located at 10,600 ft near Zojila Pass, is the first police checkpost on the Ladakh side for vehicles entering from Kashmir. SP Drass Ishtiyaq Kacho said the post is a “vulnerable transit point” for narcotics supply headed to Ladakh. He said trained narcotics-detection dogs along with handlers, have been stationed here since few days. The highly trained sniffer dogs are capable of detecting the presence of narcotic substances concealed in vehicles, luggage and with individuals. The deployment is aimed at strengthening surveillance and ensuring effective enforcement against drug trafficking along the strategic route leading into Ladakh.
